Well my feeling is that standard units will be built and rest will go off for modifications as per requirement for round Y-20U tankers and KJ-3000 AWACS similar to Y-9 production

Timeline and splits off course be just a guess

More speculation:
  • Shanghai-based PLANAF 1st Division 1st Regiment is AEW&C, 2nd Regiment (pictured) is ASW, 3rd Regiment is EW.
  • This structure applies to 2nd and 3rd Division too, respectively based in the Northern and Southern Sea Fleets. We already have evidence of KJ-500 in 3rd Division 1st Regiment.
  • PLANAF's two bomber regiments, 17th and 23rd Regiment, remain independent and may revert to a 4-digit serial number to reflect their independence.
