That's how the West usually operates, it first sends signals so that investors pull out their money and then they sanction the company
How can one sanction BYD? They are the most vertically integrated EV company. The EV supply chain is also dominated by Chinese companies in general. Where is BYD's weak point?

They might try and stop it from selling cars in US and possibly also EU, but that's basically it, actually hitting it's car productions and the likes, there's really not much they can do.

reports that BYD Dolphin for European and Australian markets will be longer to achieve 5-star Euro NCAP/ANCAP safety rating:

Obviously increased safety is a good thing, but custom work like this is going to erode the vehicle's price competitiveness, if not the overall value proposition. It seems unlikely that the modifications are simply a couple of different panels, rather the panel changes are probably to allow for structural modifications required to achieve the 5-star rating.
