The comedic incompetence of certain Western diplomats would give the impression that this second Cold War is fake but it isn't. The open diplomatic escape route that is actively being maintained by China for the EU can easily be closed down should the EU do something incredibly foolish. This second Cold War doesn't have to repeat exactly of the first one.

I don't buy it.

I can see your point, but we should ask ourselves, what if this new cold war is just a false narrative, to push an agenda of someone else's?

A multipolar world? Or a new cold war?

We know what the Americans want.

Macron personally is not that important, because his positions are not radical departures from those of previous or likely future French governments. Macron was obviously unconcerned about how his remarks would be received in Washington and other figures may be more circumspect, but the essential French perspective that chafes against American hegemony and sees a multipolar world as furthering French interests will remain. It is clear that European nations such as France have no material interest in joining Washington's crusade to suppress China's development. Washington's task is to leverage its security relationships in Europe, particularly with Eastern European nations, to persuade them to act against their own material interests. This is a challenging task, but Washington has many tools of influence, and it is essentially the same task that confronted them in relation to Russia and its relations with Europe, in which Washington was ultimately successful in provoking a fundamental breach. Even in relation to Russia, note that it was Macron who would spend hours on the telephone with Putin, right up till the end.

Washington will increasingly lean on Eastern European nations not only to adopt anti-China postures within their own borders, but also to block pro-China developments within the EU. However, the influence of France should suffice to prevent the EU from becoming the outright anti-China bastion that Washington would prefer, and that is all Beijing really needs.

I don't think there is any official support from the Ukrainian government to Taiwan, just those parliamentarians who "stand with Taiwan".
No Taiwan Representative Office or anything like that.

It is a legitimate escalation because Ukraine itself is fighting those it claims to be separatists, yet supports separatists in China. Any Chinese support of Russia would be legitimate, self defensive and aligned with Ukraine's own declared policy.

There is still a question of proportionality. If China goes all in on Ukraine, it would quickly cause the whole country to be annexed by Russia. In contrast, Ukraine has not threatened Chinese security to anywhere near the extent where something as dramatic as officially deciding to wipe them off the map would be seen as proportional.

Red lines that could give that level of justification might be: Ukrainian forces illegally in China, Ukrainian terror attacks on Chinese nationals anywhere in the world, Ukraine rescinding ties with China etc. And so far Zelensky has not been dumb enough to do that.

Right now, keeping the war on slow burn doesn't really harm China. In fact, the economical changes brought to the world are valuable and would not have happened if the war just lasted a handful of months.

My dude, people in the west already believe China is turning the Uyghurs in Xinjiang into ground beef, enslaving Africans, setting up fake police stations in the US and that the CPC is interested in Cletus from Alabama's browser history.

Supporting Russia won't change any of that, don't delude yourself.

CHINA will only go for who gives a f..k what EU/Americans say if push comes to shove regarding TAIWAN period. If the U.S. is beaten in Taiwan are we really going to assume that Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, and those Nazi Ukrainian scums (not all Ukrainians are Nazis or scums) will march their militaries and or non-existent navies into SCS or mainland China? If China wants to get involved, just send a ship carrying ammunition close to Ukraine and wait for them to attack it. You can even call it RMS Lusitania

I do believe that the Chinese leadership has assessed that the best outcome right now is peace as soon as possible

I remember many weeks back, around the time shortly after the balloon incident and Ohio derailment Guanqi was saying there's been a major environmental incident by the US, but overseas instead of in mainland.

Todays' Guanqi they asked the rhetorical question: if USS Ronald Reagan is closer than USS Nimitz why was her not tangling with Shandong CSG over the last few days? What's she been doing in Yokosuka for so long?

Xi Yazhou said he looked it up and USS Ronald Reagan has been doing an exercise that does not require her to go anywhere. The implication is that USS Ronald Reagan has suffered an incident with her reactors.

If this really did happen how long would clean up take? Do we have any good past examples?

YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan – American and Japanese first responders rehearsed emergency medical procedures involving radiation exposure Thursday, part of an annual joint drill centered on the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan.


Now in its 15th year, the unnamed drill at the U.S. 7th Fleet draws from a rotating catalog of scenarios intended to keep the base and the Japanese government proficient in responding to radiation-related issues.


Last year, for example, the drill focused on a simulated leak of radioactive coolant from the carrier.

The “president” of the European Union has almost no powers, sadly. The executive European Commission is US-puppeted while the ceremonial European Council has been consistently pro-Chinese.

Why is that? Because the European Commission is staffed by more or less unknown politicians in their countries, gaps easily filled by CIA trainees, while the European Council is a collection of heads of state, current or former national leaders who are actually held accountable by their populace and far more aware of the reality on the ground.
