From what I remember, everything the Japanese promised the Americans on the trade front, they never really do it.

Since Japan was important to the United States in the Cold War, they never punished Japan.

The Plaza Accord was really just another deal in a long line of deals, that were trying to limit Japanese ascendancy in industry, which never worked before because the Japanese never really followed what they agreed to with the Americans. When the Americans go away, then the Japanese after making a big show, get back to business.

At the time, no one really thought too much about the Plaza Accord.

Fix the symptom rather than underlying cause. This is a type foolishness I keeps seeing in west. Affirmitive action hires minority to prove they are not racist, as opposed to systematic oppression that made minority uncompetitive. Then the minority drops out of school due to bad grade

All wars, unless it ends in extermination of one side ends in some sort of negotiated settlement, even if the settlement term is unconditional surrender representative from both side still has to come together in a time and location to sign a paper saying as such. Zelensky in recent days has asked Xi to go to Kiev which I highly doubt will happen. It seems equally unlikely for the whole thing to be negotiated and signed in Moscow or Beijing either.

Thus another country may have the honor of hosting this event. We have one past example already where it took place in Minsk but given Belarus is now a lot closer to Russia I doubt Minsk is acceptable anymore. Early in the war Ankara was used as the location and it could still be the case in the future, alternatively what if Xi suggests to everyone to do this in Paris?

Which ever place Xi picks is going to be a somebody in the multipolar world, and France may be hedging.
