Yes they do. Check up names like HillHouse Capital and Huaxin(China Renaissance if it rings any bell). China has no lack of VC buyout fund houses nor capital, in fact it is so bubbly that these hot money investment is going to fake unproductive VCs before these recent tech stock crash.
Arresting private buyout fundhouses' CEOs like what they did with Bao Fan(detain/arrest with no clear reason) is extremely unsettling for investors. Alot of their clients has a keyman clause that is something along the line of say if the CEO is not able to man the fund for 3 months then the fund will be forced to liquidify, which is happening now.

I think it you don't make the wrong enemies, Chinese people can have normal living standards by US standards, which is still bad but for "elite" workers (ex. project managers, medical doctors, guest researchers etc) it is slightly better or comparable to 1st tier cities, whereas it is clearly worse for normal and unskilled workers.
The worst treatment is reserved for poor locals, which are often but not always black or latino. They're actively harvested for prison labor as well as other forms of unofficial slavery such as plantation work.
Colorism runs very deep in America. Even if India is considered an ideal target to woo while China is considered an existential enemy, America allows near open access for Chinese but is very strict towards Indians (not to mention people from Africa).
