These are not democratic politicians, these countries do not operate according to democracy, at least not in the way commonly understood.
They are appointees by ruling oligarchs that monopolize all power. As for reasons they are appointed, it could be due to nepotism, or just because they're useful idiots.
In reality this is nothing more and nothing less than a continuation of European imperial traditions. A King and his close advisors appointing aristocrats, industry leaders, these in turn appoint lower level stooges to carry out their will, and so on.
When you see things as they are, it becomes easy to understand why these people are clowns or retarded. Because they didn't deserve through merits to have ruling positions. Plus many of them have been in generations of wealth and privilege, causing their brains to rot because they never had to struggle a day in their life.
