The War in the Ukraine

So much for Russia running out of cruise missiles.

Russia started hitting the Ukrainian hydro power plant infrastructure. Since hydro power plants are typically used to provide load leveling this will make the electric grid way more unstable and more prone to energy spikes. Ukraine had also been using the hydro power plants to replace the thermal power plant electric capacity they lost last week. So expect prolonged blackouts. And lack of water supply as electric pumps stop working.

The Ukrainians once again became entangled in a series of lies:

I understand that Denys Shmygal of Ukraine claimed that missiles and drones were launched in that attack, 44 missiles out of 50 were shot down (a claim I do not believe), but he did not claim that drones were intercepted, i.e. I understand that none drone was intercepted.

and more than 30% without energy supply

It's probably better to try to shot down the cruise missiles than the drones, but missiles stock level is probably quite low. Seeing more buk with single missiles and s-300 erectors with empty canisters getting hit lately. Everything will start to pass through if they don't have sensible resupply. Receiving single digit IRIS-T system will not change the lack of quantity loss.

There hasn't been any mention of drones being used in this attack yet, though. All the videos so far show Kh-101's
That's what I'm trying to understand, but the PM said missiles and drones were used.

They've been missing a lot of SAM launchers these past few weeks, the amount is really concerning.

Readovka (pro-Russian source) calculation of damage done this morning:
Forwarded from Readovka Losses from today's retaliatory strikes could reach 3 GW. This is very serious for the energy infrastructure of Ukraine

Analytical service Readovka calculated the possible losses of Ukraine's energy infrastructure from the current strikes on the HPP. We are talking about the capacity, which was produced by Kremenchug hydroelectric plant (0.7 GWt), Dniester hydroelectric plant (0.7 GWt) and Dnieper hydroelectric plant (1.5 GWt). Together, up to 3 GWh of generation was lost, which is up to 1/3 of all generation in the country.

Obviously, today's strikes could lead to the most serious power outages in Ukraine, even compared to the outages of October 10 and 12.

pro-Ukraine source
As a result of Russian attacks, 30-40% of Ukraine's energy infrastructure was damaged, the damage reaches billions of dollars
This would put the damage from this morning equal to or greater than the damage on 10th of October, which I recall was 30%. All the two big waves together, plus smaller attack in between, plus repairs done in the last 3 week. We are still talking about a very significant amount of total capacity destroyed.

Lapin was removed from his post. RIA war correspondent Alexander Kharchenko confirmed with his sources.

This is some good news. There's no reason these failures should remain at their post and allowed to sabotage the Russian position from inside. If anything he should be thoroughly investigated while under house arrest.

As for this Sevastopol thing, interesting that once again Ukrainian sources say they sank Admiral Makarov. The ship with 9 lives, as it's been reported moored in harbour this morning. This remains to be seen yet but multiple reports from civilians are saying that.

Russians already sent corresponding responses across Ukraine. Maybe they should consider this very effective tool evaluating the consequences of one's actions, in order to decide if it's worth going ahead with. Now someone seriously needs to consider putting NATO command and control assets on the table for strikes
