Why did he defect - if we're to entertain the idea that China's Spy Chief defected to the U.S. - what was or his motivation for doing so? After decades of helping China ascend to it's current status he's had enough of the growth and now he wants to see China democratize and what's the best thing to do is to actually head to it's most pre-eminent competitor/foe to further enhance by showing evidence that China not only leaked the virus but affirms and confirms just about every American accusations against China's maligned activities in the U.S. what's in it for the man? A healthy conscience and a billion $$ with a few mistress plus a chance hob knob with elites and think tanks?

What's your theory or theories because you seemed really concerned that this could be the case and it's the same sort of concern you raised about the now fake news b.s. about the impending radioactive nuclear plant or some b.s. that was reported first by C.N.N.

People defect for various reasons but what I want to know is what do you infer to be the man's motivation for doing so if indeed this is the case.

Except Kim did come out. CIA never claimed he was dead, lol. It was a North Korean defector that lived in South Korea that first initiated that rumor.

CIA never talks about actual defections until years later.
Weeks and months later after the rumors KIM decided to make an appearance that doesn't count. If you think all those rumors have nothing to do with CIA, then be my guest.

The same applies to the recent nuclear scientist that reportedly fell off a building?? Really.

A respected scientist, near retirement, with good state pension just jumps or falls off of a building. Right.

Or did he leak stories about fuel rod crack and was under pressure from the CCP for being a whistle blower.
Are you serious? Really? What is your proof other than your western sensibility? You have a really strong sense of imagination and inference without proof. The death of an individual is enough for you to create doubt and suspicions to the whole government in China. You might as well throw in the lab leak theory and that indeed by shutting up the ophthalmologist, Dr. Li Wenliang he was simply blowing the lid to the crisis of the virus - which eventually became known as Covid-19 - that was causing the mysterious deaths of people in Wuhan. And we might as well accede to the theories and rumors during the height of the Covid-19 in Wuhan, China that there were indeed "millions or Chinese deaths" considering the number of cell phones going out of service; the parking lot scene according to some U.S. satellites pushed by some Harvard experts. Anything else am missing here?

That was a statement that’s reportedly made by Dong. Don’t know for sure when that statement was made.

But since the rumors started, Dong has not made any public appearances. That’s the best way to squash the rumors - yet nothing

Do you read Chinese?

The article @KYli linked specifically says:

6月18日当天,北京官方媒体《北京日报》罕见披露这名国安部副部长行踪。报道称,6月18日上午,中国国家安全部副部长董经纬主持召开座谈会,学习贯彻4月26日起施行的《反间谍安全防范工作规定》,就做好反奸防谍工作作出部署。

Maybe he was under investigation for corruption. There could be a lot of reasons. Why do any high level officials defect.

We can debate back and forth. But rumors will continue to fly as long as Dong is not seen in public.

This newest "China is about to collapse" news also reminds me of the intense interest and speculation heaped upon Jack Ma's supposed sudden "disappearance" he wasn't seen for weeks or months and people again in the west speculated that he's been jailed or killed or a combination of both. Then a month or 2 later the man surfaces showing himself alive and well. He visited some school or something and was just laying low. But the speculations in the west wouldn't cease without imagining another cacophony of idiotic fantasy driven drivel. Which essentially means that China or the CPC can never be trusted regardless of what their data says because their data is Communist which means wrong lol..f.ng hilarious. You need to take a chill pill dude.

Jack Ma’s disappearance was obvious western propaganda. You could smell that from a mile away. Ma was lying low, but he wasn’t in some gulag like Bloomberg wanted people to believe.

In Dong’s case, I raised the possibility of possible defection. And you went nuts about some western sensibility, lol.

You don’t know for sure he didn’t defect as much as I don’t know for sure that he did. So u chill out.

You're living in the west and has adopted some western values and cultural norms/mores along the way so what I said wasn't exactly an exaggeration. You offer no proof but just a hunch that the rumor about China's spy Master not only has veracity but some strong air of truth. The onus is not on China or for China to showcase their spy Master just please or appease the psyops Americans are playing against the Chinese government because at the end of the day regardless of what China does or how many times it has catered to the demented demands of the U.S. security-intelligence-complex that unceasing appetite can never be satisfied.

I think its highly unlikely that someone as higher up as dong jingwei would defect and escaped via Hong Kong as the rumour suggested, he would've been intercepted right away
However what is likely is that attemps to infiltrate and to recruit agents within China is increasing since cia agents has been wiped out back in 2011

Chinese people living in the west are often the strongest defender of China. They are proud of their Chinese heritage and what China has accomplished in the last 30 years.

The onus is not on China, but nor is it on me to disproof Dong’s defection. I raised the possibility of defection. It’s a rumor that’s making the headlines. But is it completely implausible that Dong defected.
