What kind of the "international respect" that you meant here, repeatedly, ad nauseam? And from which countries? Or which bloc? The NATO bloc? The G-7 bloc? 5-EYES bloc? Or why does China really need such every "respect", and at what price???JFC, it is 2021 and this was still allowed?..
You see? Thats why I say China needs another 10 yrs at least to get international respect.
Who is gonna respect China when it allowed for so long an obviously criminal and disgusting behaviour to happen? Who knows what other things are allowed that the rest of the civilised world has criminalized?
Good first step, however more needs to be done, especially on enforcing the sexual harassment laws
C'mon, I know you should understand better this kind of "respect"... those few countries won't accept the Chinese rise unless the rise is so overwhelming that they cannot deny any more! Accordingly the "respects"...
But does it really matter??? For any thing that really matters, respects are earned by power, by might!
About the "sexual harassment", this is a very broad definition. If China is not being careful, and over codifying its law on "sexual harassment" it will go into the direction of the USA whereas it becomes toxic things in interactions and relationships in many parts of the society, at which some part of society may be tempted to weaponize the "sexual harassment" things for their own selfish agendas or litigation for financial gains or for destroying the reputation of the other side, or any other sinister purposes. If China is not careful in treading such matter, it will have negative side effect on its culture, values & traditions, and people to people relationships. What happens in the USA with all the "sexual harassment" things are really ugly, unhealthy! China must consider seriously how broad it wanna cover all such issues into its laws. Unofficial rules like the social sanctions and punishments can also direct the societal behaviours! And not every thing needs to be codified into laws. I won't take too much the SCMP article in this matter. My two cents.
