Breaking news on Bloomberg.

Trump administration signal 'US firms can use wechat in China'! Lol. This is not just a back track, it's a stampede in reverse!

as usual, flip-flop ... no surprise here. It shows another proof that we should take a huge grain of salt of what this administration say ... it has no credibility at all, this administration has no strategy ... only emotion and quick reaction with lack of thought to any "decision"

There's more to this:

---

But this doesn't actually make sense.
80% of stockmarket trading volume is accounted for by retail investors, not fund managers.

And if the US starts sanctioning SMIC and YMTC, their survival and eventual success becomes even more important to the Chinese government and private Chinese technology companies.

So we can expect even more resources to flow to SMIC and YMTC, until they become self-sufficient from any US-origin technology.

And this money would come from from the government, investment fund managers, venture capital funds and retail investors etc etc

Could be Psyop warfare or it could be real. But SMIC and YMTC are too convenient of targets.

I don't doubt that there are elements in the USA that really do want SMIC and YMTC to be sanctioned.

But to do so, they have to be vocal and overcome opposition from *moderate* elements from Treasury and the American technology companies. So it's not really psyops aimed at China.

However, it does reinforce the point that China needs to replace any US origin technology.
There's too much risk and unreliability involved.

Yeah I don't know if broad sanctions would gain support. US tech is losing credibility pretty quickly. Dont worry, american companies are not stupid, they are moving employees and research centers overseas and "re developing" equipment components so it's non-US.

At this point, the only decision maker that matters is Donald Trump, and he will do anything to be reelected in November.

Plus the US Congress is united in bashing China (like Japan previously), so it's entirely possible.

Trump is like a shotgun. Shoot anything from his mouth and see what sticks. This tactics is all well and good in the beginning, but once people see through that. Well it's only down hill.

You can see from his business ventures, all starts with great grandfare and all ends in disasters!

Mnuchin been sidelined for a while, that's why all these sanctions are coming out in the first place.
