I am wondering what the "adoptive" parents would explain why didn't they (or if they did) report to the authority at the time when they "found" Kang Ying 24 years ago. Nobody should take home an unaccompanied child without reporting to the police. It would be equivalent to kidnapping if they did not. I am almost certain that Kang Ying would "pardon" her adoptive parents if they didn't do the right thing 24 years ago. But law should not have been broken no matter what, especially such type, a law suite should be put forward if necessary, only to be pardoned by Kang Ying's plea in the court. Taking away a child from parents is one of the worst acts of all kinds.

She looks exactly like my cousin...lol.
I remember reading a few reports on how a large number of Chinese have just a few common ancestors a few thousand years ago.

40% of Han have a common ancestor 5000 years ago, though the sample size is still small. Looking forward to new reports as more data is collected.

"But it also points to a more surprising event in China some 5000 years ago in which three populations expanded quickly within 500 years of each other. Each of these populations can be traced to a single man. And yet they now account for more than 40% of today’s Han Chinese population—that’s 300 million living males."

It wouldn't surprise me if many were distantly related, supporting the Shennong (God farmer), Huangdi (Yellow Emperor), Yandi (Flame Emperor) ancestor mythology. The Han however isn't that genetically homogeneous due to intermixing over the years with different tribes and ethnic groups but the relation to each other is still strong. The mythologies revolve around agriculture and taming the rivers, which could explain the population explosion during that time. In other studies 60% of Chinese descended from 5 common ancestors, going back 6000 years.

Specific Y-chromosome haplotypes associated with Han Chinese have been correlated with certain surnames whose origins are linked with the legendary ancestor mythology you mentioned.

Abstract:

Most populations now use hereditary surnames, and most societies have patrilineal surnames. This naming system is believed to have started almost 5000 years ago in China. According to legends and ancient history books, there were Eight Great Xings of High Antiquity that were the ancestors of most Chinese surnames today and are thought to be descended from the two legendary prehistoric Emperors Yan and Huang. Recent work identified three Neolithic super-grandfathers represented by Y chromosome haplotypes, O3a1c, O3a2c1, and O3a2c1a, which makes it possible to test the tales of Yan-Huang and their descendant surnames. We performed two independent surveys of contemporary Han Chinese males (total number of subjects 2415) and divided the subjects into four groups based on the relationships of their surnames with the Eight Great Xings, Jiang (Yan), Ying (Huang), Ji(Huang), and Others (5 remaining Xings related to Huang). In both studies, we found that subjects with O3a1c were enriched with Jiang-related surnames and subjects with O3a2c1a were enriched with Yingrelated surnames. Also, subjects with Jiang-related surnames were enriched with O3a1c and those with Ying-related surnames were enriched with O3a2c1a. Finally, subjects with O3a2c1 were slightly enriched for the Others-group, consistent with linking O3a2c1 to another legendary leader Chi You who lost to Huang and was largely ignored as an ancestor of Han on par with Yan and Huang. These results are remarkably consistent with historical writings on Yan and Huang and suggest that tales of Yan-Huang and their related-Xings and surnames may not be unrealistic.
