Is it only me or how I feel the Chinese really have problem with aesthetics. Like people always say "what's not outdated is not China". From military to civilian aircraft. The painting is just awful. Even Pakistan can do better painting job.

To me the train is still in good condition, I'd bet it's still better than most trains in SEA and South Asian countries

NANJING, Jan. 8, 2016 (Xinhua) -- Photo taken on Jan. 8, 2016 shows the last green train ready to depart from Nanjing, east China's Jiangsu Province. Train No. 7101 has been in service since the 1980s, running between Nanjing and Huangshan Mountain stations. It covered a distance of 371 kilometers with more than eight hours. What it has got anything to do with Pakistan painting job anyway ?

Yeah, it's my personal opinion. To me, the painting job on Chinese aircraft, military or civilian are not good. What does it have to do with Pakistan's painting job? Just a comparison. If you look at some of the painting on Pakistan's JF-17, especially the Black Panther, you'll know what I mean.

You may call me old fashioned, but I like the classic cheatline liveries. The Air China and China Southern ones are properly designed with subtlety and balance, and stands well to the test of time. Could they be updated with a more modern touch? Definitely. But I worry more about them losing all the good old bits (e.g. the fonts of Air China) and getting replaced by a shitty new age "bold and simple" one like many airlines are doing nowadays. Look at the new livery of China Eastern, Japan Airlines, LATAM etc., they may look fresh at first sight but there is no taste, no style, just cost-saving light paint and in-your-face text+logo branding, people will get tired of it easily.

Military paintjobs should be discussed separately. Some of the old ones are pretty bad (prime example include Chengdu factory paintjob of the JF-17) but IMO the newer paintjobs on all the grey nose J-10/11/15/16 and the "white-cloud belly" paintjob on the larger aircraft are not bad to look at. Not to mention experimental paintjob on prototypes like J-20.

i've always wondered how the J-10 will look if they painted some in the Israeli F-16 desert brown camo paint scheme. it should look very awesome.

I'd say it's more CCP than China, since traditional Chinese aesthetics is rich and distinctive. The reason might be CCP cadres are the only people on Earth with less taste and humor than Western liberals.

Those Green Trains bring back fond memories. I remember eating chicken legs, boiled eggs, instant noodles and drinking warm bottled beer while taking those trains to various destinations across china. Chatting to fellow passengers while sharing apples and lychee while talking about every topic under the sun. those low tech, slow trains have served chinese people for decades and now they are all being replaced by new fast trains. that means next time i go back to china there won't be anymore green trains, i'm going to miss that but i look forward to taking the new high speed trains.
