Blue my boy We have been following the Kuratas for sometime. it's a really remarkable toy. a moving stature powered by a small engine armed with bb mini guns and a water balloon rocket launcher.

Then you know they upgraded the operation software to Windows 8.1.

Had a special event at Akihabara yesterday.
MS(Microsoft) is happy to be part of MS(Mobile Suit).
I just hope they do not add a new meaning to blue screen of death. LoL

No I was not aware they upgraded softwear but it's logical they would. as To New meaning of Blue screen of death. considering the construction and design I am not to worried about it. even it something went wrong it's more likely to crash and stop then go on a rampage. and it's so under powered that the amount of damnage it could cause is little more then what a drunk in a Toyota SUV could do.
Kuratas I am not worried about The implications of it I am though. As It proves that a small group with marginal funding and a Engineering degree in basic Robotics could create such a thing, and Although Kuratas is benign not everyone who might build such will be. I am worried about a "TREX" A TerroRist EXoskeleton A Malevolent Group or Groups doing the same to generate a mass casualty incident using a up armored up gunned up powered type machine.

Not to worry when terrorists goes for "TREX" Japan would probably up the antes with these;

For those of you who don't know what KURATAS is see the vid below.

On the page it states that the total weight of package would be 5,000Kg while the actual weight of product is 4,00Kg. Unfortunately they are out of stock at the moment and do not know when they will receive next shipment. LoL

The wheeled legs are anti-climatic. I expect bipedal or quadrapedals but I believe to incorporate them in such a huge robot is too challenging for now.

Quadruped unmanned and manned machines are real look at Boston robotics wildcat. Same for six leg machines that are manned and used for logging. Bipeds are harder. Best is a exoskeleton, which is worn like braces over the body and increases strength. Kuratas though is intended to be a mecha. Its not a actual piece of equipment though. Its more of a mobile statue meant to impress.
its powered by a common engine taken from a car which is likely the reason for the wheels. The engine fuel cockpit manipulator arms and other goodies make the chassis to heavy to actually walk. By making it a wheeled platform with arms then the chassis can be rigid enough to hold the weight and get to speed.
The only platform that is mobile and has manipulator and a cockpit on legs that I can think of is a John Deere made logging platform that moves on six legs. In a drag race though Kuratas would smoke it. The John Deere is meant for all terrain logging its six legs are slow moving but give it stability its single manipulator arm is meant to cut down and strip a tree.
Quadruped platforms like Wild cat and big dog as well as personal exoskeletons worn like full body braces and of course wheeled and tracked are the best option in my opinion for military and police service. Kuratas is fun but not much more.
its to weak and heavy for search and rescue to slow and difficult for law enforcement pursuit, to much a target for the military with to thin a skin.
My "TREX" threat scenario is based more around a personal armored exoskeleton but has a short life span as although most police or security forces would have trouble dealing with one any real firepower brought against it would likely win the day.Think a robotic version of the North Hollywood shootout.

I know of Boston Robotics and their exploits, but their machines are not the size of Kuratas. But since they have already got their balancing issue licked, they can pull it off if they want to. Or Segway with their gyro-stabilized technology. I have yet to come across Japanese or Korean robots that can stay upright if pushed.

I can't say where the South Korean's are Focusing. I know the North Koreans are trying to build Giant steam punk rockem sockum Robots of Death.

I'm not able to view the ASIMO video, but I don't think it has the ability to stay upright if pushed unlike Boston's robots, which, anyway has four legs. Still it shows the depth of US technology.
