well, that one j11 with a testbed easa radar radome had a visibly shorter radome than other j11. once we start getting better images of j16 we will surely be able to compare to radome lengths and see for ourselves.

here's a quick n dirty comparison with two closest angle images i could find. you know what, i think i can even see the slightly shorter radome (keep in mind the total nose length is same!) on j16. very similar to what we saw on that j11 testbed (and what one can see on su35, which has a similar radome change)

i'd need more images for a better comparison but so far it does seem quite plausible.

That of course is assuming that J-11 testbed was testing an AESA for J-16 and not for a different other flanker variant (such as J-15 or retrofit J-11B)

The retrofitted J11 was unlikely testing a radar for the J16 considering the fact that the photos of the aircraft appeared around the same time the J16 was said to be entering production, but rather for the rumored J11D.
