Chinese direct investments are becoming more and more high-value.

Advanced manufacturing, EV components, and soon even robotics.

I also noticed that key people from the Ministry of Defense were present.

Vučić even said that all the generals want Chinese weapons the most.

So my guess is that many new agreements in the defense sector were reached as well.

Only a few people ever got this medal, and even fewer heads of state, really important for Serbia.

How is popular support for Vucic in Serbia? Vucic only has a year left in his term. Will the next president be like minded? The anti-Vucic protests are still ongoing.

Support for Vučić has been gradually falling over the years. People are not mentally disciplined enough to stay loyal forever, and after 14 years of his rule, many are simply saturated with him.

They are also slowly forgetting how bad things were before him, under the traitorous, extremely liberal, weak governments of the early 2000s.

However, if Vučić still has a solid support base, it does not even need to be a majority or anything impressive.

He can still rule because of his control over informal networks, business circles, intelligence structures, security forces, public sector employment, electoral engineering, and similar systems.

Serbia is a hybrid autocracy, so raw popularity is not the only thing that matters. What he has at his disposal is much more direct and powerful than what Orban had.

Serbia still has many such authoritative power structures left over from the Milošević era of the 1990s, and unlike Hungary, it is not inside the EU. In my opinion, he still has that base alongside some decent popularity. He will not go down like Orban.

He has hardline loyalists firmly placed across the armed forces, the police, and the Constitutional Court, purging those not loyal enough during these protests.

He cannot use too much force and solve this problem once and for all by brutally suppressing the “students” and jailing the organizers, because of EU pressure.

But at the same time, they cannot really do anything to him except cause unrest from time to time.

He cannot be elected president for a third term by law, but he can install someone loyal to him.

There will probably be early presidential and parliamentary elections this year, in 2026, and Vučić will “win“ and become PM again (de jure, a more powerful function by design anyway).

Protests and riots might get worse for a while after the result, but that will not change the reality on the ground.

In my opinion, Vučić still has enough battery left to rule until 2030 at least.

By then, I predict the Western world will have declined even further and entered deeper internal collapse, so they may not have the energy to deal with him if he tries to centralize power even more.

Funny how the Philippines articles uses WSJ as their source but conveniently leaves out the elephant in the WSJ article. That it is a 99 year lease where the US has full diplomatic immunity, administrative control, pays zero rent, and it also operates under US law. Not under Philippines laws. Basically a US colony.

That certainly make it legally easy for China to bomb, in addition to being geographically easy.

Infact it makes it legally easy for China to annex, which could be extremly useful.

Everyone should remember that when the West talks about freedom, they're talking about their freedom and not anyone else's. They want the world to believe they're talking about everyone's freedom because it's a great cover that their version of freedom is no different from every dictator who believes in their own freedom only. That's how they're judging what freedom is to them. Look at how many right-wing Republicans talk about how great they are because they believe in freedom. They're certainly not talking about everyone's freedom. They're talking about only their own and then they want to be lauded as some sort of hero because of it. The Republicans love crying about China's social credit system. But they want that for everyone they don't like. They're so paranoid they want anyone they don't like tracked and everything they do monitored.

Bill Maher defends Israel more than he cares about the US. So when he's judging China, he's judging on how much freedom "he" has in China. Why is Israel labelling China as an antisemitic country? It's all because China is not perpetuating the pro-Israel narrative. As with everything else if you don't go out of your way to defend Israel, they see you as antisemitic. Look at how they even said if someone who is Jewish walks outside in the middle of the night and feels unsafe, that's antisemitism. Who's there who committed the crime? Is that freedom where a crime is committed when no one is there? Who gets punished because they didn't go out of there way to make sure anyone who is Jewish feels safe walking out at night on the streets? Bill Maher is repeating exactly the same things that Bar Weiss has said and they're both pro-Israel. Does anyone think they're talking about universal freedom... or only their own? Just look at one of Biden's people in the US State Department who said if China defends itself from being attacked by the US, they're denying the American people of their freedom.
