I just don't see how this doesn't go back to open warfare at some point. Neither side is going to back down or will give what the other wants via negotiation. I honestly don't even think Democrats coming into power in the 2026 midterms will change the outcome because no US political party is ever going to give war reparations to Iran as that would be political suicide. I'd wager it would be less politically dangerous to engage in ground war in Iran then negotiate for reparations.

A Chinese owned tanker was struck on Monday and was only announced just now. This is the first time a Chinese owned ship has been attacked since the start of the war. No casualties thankfully.

I would check this with Iran. It has to be a case of mistaken identity/friendly fire, if they did it at all.
That info is surprisingly hard to find. The original Caixin article is paywalled and subsequent article on Reuters quoting Caixin doesn't have that info. The ship is flagged Marshall islands but most of the ~20 crew is Chinese. The stated destination on the ship AIS is CHINESE OWNER.CREW
