There's a pathway, not very well known, for former Chinese citizens to restore their citizenship if they give up their current citizenship:

Note how you need your place of former household registration and former national ID card number.
The other alternative to gaining Chinese PR without the very rare "made outstanding contribution" method is to just marry a Chinese citizen.
What if parents are Chinese citizen?

Too much trouble. Just get residence in ROC and wait for AR.

I'm pretty sure if your parents are Chinese citizen:

1. At birth and at some age (21 I think?) where you are considered reaching adulthood you get a chance to renounce any foreign citizenship you hold and get Chinese citizenship, no questions asked.

2. If you miss the first opportunity and both of your parents are still Chinese citizens, you can still gain Chinese citizenship by coordinating a renounce of your current citizenship and getting a Chinese citizenship at the same time. This is treated administratively the same as if a couple deliberately obfuscated the birth of a Chinese child for some other reasons (eg, to dodge One Child Policy) and then deciding to come forward at a later stage to fix the paperwork. There should be some fine involved here just like extra child during One Child Policy.

I saw a testimonial of an Australian-Chinese guy who did this. He was former Chinese citizen who gained Australian citizenship who married a Chinese citizen wife. Although he already had Chinese PR via his wife he underwent the process of restoration of Chinese Nationality. After he's done that he then used the second method above to change his kid from Australian to Chinese citizenship too now that both parents are Chinese citizens.

The issue with this is that you will be subject to taxation (global tax) by Chinese tax bureau. The way HK is set up is far more superior given low taxes. Especially considering there's a dearth of "Chinese patriotic professionals " in HK.
