Looks like he's still obsessed with controlling the world's oil trade. If Gulf oil is out, more money for US companies & govt. Having said that, neither the US nor Venezuela produce enough to replace the Gulf at the moment.

They're not seeking to replace the volume 1:1. They're seeking to extract as much money from the world for as few drops of oil as possible. If that means they're being paid 1,000 or even 10,000 dollars a barrel, they'd be happy with that.
Trump prob got told off not to attack the oil infra etc, so this way he gets to block iranian oil plus anyone else that wants to do deal with iran to let their ships through or pay the toll.
Iran wont fire the first shot when blockade starts so they think they can sit there for a few days/weeks while building more forces /swapping pilots/planes.

The blockade applies to vessels of all nations but will not affect ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz to non-Iranian ports.
So by definition this will apply to Chinese flag tankers too.
Iran could easily defeat this blockade by requiring all ships to first enter an Iranian port before being allowed to approach other countries. Any ships that don't comply will be sunk. The US navy will be forced to come close enough where they're vulnerable

The report that China is shipping MANPADS to Iran came from CNN who said it came from US intelligence. What does Trump mean “if true”? Wouldn’t US intelligence tell him directly if it were true?
Means they made it up and Trump slipped the wrong words by mistake.
Iran has 174m barrels already at sea beyond the US toll, destined mostly to China. Overloaded on tankers in shadow fleets. Most of it is somewhere near Malaysia.
