But I’m talking about the CS/LS6, not the CS/LS7 – I don’t even know if they’re the same weapon or not, because I hadn’t even heard of the CS/LS7

This is the CS/LS6. It holds 50 rounds.
First released in 2005. The CS/LS6 was never adopted. We have it as an export, but internally, it isn't used.




This is the Type 79. It only holds 20 rounds.
It was released in 1979. This was what China was using as their standard SMG until the CS/LS7 came along, but until then, this was what was the primary SMG of China. It even has an upgrade kit to make it more modern.



This is the CS/LS7. It holds 30 rounds.
First conceived in 2014 and entered service in 2016. It replaced the Type 79 as China's new primary SMG.

Do you have any manuals, documents or anything else on the Type 79 that I could have a look at? I also collect weapon manuals – generally from any country – and I do have some from China, but they’re for export models. If you have access to Google Drive, I can show you what I mean.

I personally don't have any manuals since I don't collect them, but some others on the forum do. If you read through the past pages, you will find some pop-up every now and then.

The problem is that there are hundreds of answers and it would take me days to sort through them; I’m happy with anything, as long as the Chinese Ministry of Defence approves and it doesn’t pose a threat – for example, the Hanyang Type 88.

On the topic of submachine guns, there were a couple attempts to replace the Type 79 in police service prior to the more widespread adoption of the CS/LS7. The CS/LS5, JH16-1, and BJC-16 has seen limited service in various municipal police tactical units.

I don’t know how long the submachine gun has been in use; very little is generally known in the West about Chinese weapons, but I seek out what little information there is because I’m a real weapons geek

I’d love to get hold of the manual to add to the collection and library I’ve built up, but it’s very hard to come by. If it’s taken me years to get hold of manuals for Chinese weapons (the export versions), I can’t even begin to imagine how difficult it must be to get hold of the official ones from the People’s Republic of China.
