No one said the cannon on the airborne vehicle is 40mm. It is speculated that the one on type 100 support vehicle is 40mm.

CV-90 for reference, that uses 40mm.

CV-90's gun has a double vented shroud for better cooling hence making the barrel thicker, Airborne IFV's gun is shroudless.

Too thin? 40mm is literally only 10mm thicker than a 30mm, you wouldn't be able tell the difference between a 20mm and 30mm gun unless someone told you so
