This news shouldn't be taken at face value, as Huahong/HLMC only has 22/20nm process technology.
huahong has technology through his subsidiary ICRD.
local semiconductor ecosystem getting mature so this was expected outcome as HH was working on FinFet process before sanctions. but sanctions derailed the plans. this is their own 7nm IP which is a good news. but this is just the sample and volume production is a different game. hopefully in coming year. even Japanese media Nikkeiasia reported this.
last year they hired Dr. Peng Bai from Intel, a veteran with 30 years old experience developing several nodes in Intel.

I have now written my piece on this. Nikkei reported this a while ago. But it's pretty clear they are actually achieve production soon if Biren has already taped out AI chips with them.
Anyone know if they are using ASML machines or domestic built ones?
