Iranian light sweet crude has an API of 34 to 36, heavy crude with API of 26 to 28. West Texas Intermediate has an average API of about 40. Venezuela, yes definitely super heavy, sulfury and tar like, very low API. So as for the photo, not entirely accurate. Only partially. (not sure why the highest, least dense oil in the photo below is dark black. Maybe someone with a petroleum background here can educate me)View attachment 171142
I saw this been circulated online. How true is this?
I know Venezuela oil isn't good but I didn't know it's basically sludge that needs loads of refining to barely useable. No wonder the oil execs aren't really keen on getting into Venezuela even after all that had happened.
Might be in for a long oil squeeze.
