Turns out he didn’t really hide at all. Khamenei was mostly sitting at home the entire time for the last several weeks. Calling advisors and senior leaders to meet him there. Essentially creating their own decapitation event. Everyone clearly knew something was going to happen since Iran exported 3x the normal volume of oil a few days before it started. The Saudis also surged their exports during those few days.

Almost sounds like he martyred himself deliberately, after all the stupid decisions he made over the years to put Iran in this position. What a tragic hero character arc if this is indeed the case....

In any case I doubt this will impact the war much since he has been mostly a figure head for a while now. It does give Trump a chance to taco without being seen as a pussy, wonder if he will take it.

If you want to be kind you can say Iranian leaders valued honor highly reasoning US wouldn't strike during diplomatic talks. I personally think they probably had some unjustified delusions about US.
