Most important thing if they really want to play the long game is to shut down all the main gulf airports for months. Via drones and missiles. They'll need to take a page from the Houthis.

Big caveat however.
We had the same conclusion last time, if they decided to fight long enough and take the economic hit, they could do extensive economic damage to Israel. But we got a 12-day war instead.
This time, I don’t think things will end in merely 12 days, in fact with how the supreme commander hold them in check, Israel and the USA would need to be prepared to last as least a few months minimum and I don’t think they are that good at long term preparation for anything nowadays

Busiest air corridor on earth emptied out; traffic rerouted to Red Sea.

This means if Yemen starts lobbing drones and missiles at Israel, interception will be extra risky with increased civilian jetliners operating in the area.

Zoomed in of the bilibili video posted earlier,

The Houtis could blockade gulf of aden while Iran blockade Hormuz. I would also target oil plants and fields and ports in regional countries such as Saudi, Qatar, UAE. Like destroy all of them so they are left with an economy without oil money.

I would also considered target high value buildings such as Burj Al Arab hotel for jealousy.

What is the actual downside to the US just bombing the crap out of Iran and leave it a heap of ruins without a continuation plan? High oil prices are good for the US. Iran won't be able to do much more than what they were already doing, all the proxies in the ME didn't help them before and it won't help them now.

Trump probably has done more damage to US power by pissing off Europe rather than another bombing campaign in ME.
Adding to what others have said,
  1. Declining morale and fatigue will set in for the servicemen and women deployed to the Middle East if it becomes a prolonged conflict.
  2. Many Trump supporters are currently pro-war for the dopamine rush of finally duking it out with Iran, but even his most diehard supporters are expecting a swift Maduro style victory. If the campaign actually extends to the midterms, war fatigue will set it across the entire American public.
  3. If he bombs Iran to rubble, but the IRGC and clerics are still in power, that is by default a failure of US objectives.
  4. If by rubble, you mean thousands of Iranian civilian casualties and even the country's most beautiful mosques like Naqsh E-Jahan square not being spared by the bombings, that'll imbue within Iranian public a hatred for the West similar to the Ukrainian people's hatred for Russia. Thus, if the IRGC and clerics are still in power, they will have an eternal hold on legitimacy and be able to rebuild and rally the nation.
  5. In a scenario where the entire leadership is gone, well that means Iran falls into civil war. A civil war that can spread across the Middle-East and lead to another refugee wave that would make the Syrian refugee crisis look like childsplay in comparison.

If I recall during the 12 day war, most of Iran's early salvos were intercepted and it was only when Israel began to run low on interceptors, did Iranian missiles finally start landing direct hits on the cities. This time around, despite being literally day one, they are having much more success penetrating defenses in not just Israel but all the Gulf states as well.
