Basically they want to co-develop a WS-19 equivalent engine with France for AMCA.
what does it mean by 80%? like manufacturing of certain parts?
And once again, India proves it is completely unaware of its position: "80% Tech Transfer Non-Negotiable." In the worst-case scenario, GE or the US government—especially given Uncle Don's increasingly irrational and unpredictable policies—will simply say, "Screw you!" So be it!
And then... then Tejas Mk. 2 is dead, AMCA is dead, TEDBF is dead too...

This is the billion dollar question.
We know that SAFRAN has already been toying with prototypes of a boosted m88 engine. France has not done a clean-slate engine design for fighter jets for many years now. The French arrogance destroyed the FCAS project they had with the Germans. The French have very high opinions of themselves.
Somehow Indians think they will be given better treatment than Germans, who are after all France's most consequential ally. I think the most likely outcome is a boosted m88 with minimal tech transfer.
I don't think SAFRAN has the in-house capability for a clean slate 120 kN engine, and especially not in the timeframe we're discussing here. It's just a fantasy. The Indians are in for a rude awakening.
Serious podcast without any jingoism, one thing to note is that some gimped form of Kaveri does exist without afterburner, which is in use by some UAV programe.
