Western media, commentators and twitter have been going ballistic over what would otherwise be a normal effect from a corruption investigation

corruption or not, it would be good to have younger, more aggressive generals for the wars to come.
I used to read a lot of books from the former navy seal Richard marcinko who wrote that U.S. spec ops tends to recruit from maladjusted youth who love violence but also have potential for intelligence, eg would be jocko willinck.
In this sort of culture, tolerance for crime and corruption was tolerated especially as it seemed like there was a spartan like culture of under supplying troops so they were forced to steal from others. However the belief that tolerance for corruption and crime was necessary to inculcate special forces who would “do whatever it takes to win” created crime syndicates based inside military bases Where entire special forces divisions ran cartel like drug trades often with the tacit support of the CIA. This corruption was also observed in allied forces like the Australian ADF.

re the split between the Anglos and NATO, we have to remember that Russia and Ukraine were once brother nations as close as Canada and the U.S. Now granted Ukraine also had Soros and the EU funding neonazi parties and extreme poverty gave strength to these groups but given the way the global economy is going, it would not be too far fetched to see French military bases in Greenland with missiles targeted at the eastern seaboard.

I mean China can do both. Uzbekistan ain't exactly rich and they figured out how to have a decent squad. Vietnam recently beat South Korea in bronze for the Asia U23 cup.

Its not really a matter of resources at this point. Its the fact that China still cannot find the root cause problem for crappy football. There is something seriously wrong with how it selects players as well as trains them to operate as a team. Unless they figure that out, no amount of money will help unless they just wanna buy every best player in the world in their prime and give them Chinese citizenship. But even that's no guarantee.
You know, football cannot be taught from above or coaches from abroad can be implanted. Nations excel in football where boys chase the ball in every spot and where old guys go to bury the ball after work. This is how Pelé, Garrincha, Messi or Ronaldo, etc. were found. My small homeland has already been in the World Cup finals twice and was also the European champions. Simply put, until you have your boys in those spots with the ball, you will not be good.

Eileen Gu is not culturally Chinese though? She doesn’t even come across as a Chinese immigrant, so let’s not dwell too much on her connections or loyalties to China.

She’s basically like if a white expat in China decided he was going to become a wumao.
You are basically arguing about "egg and chicken". How do you expect someone to become Chinese culturally or legally without being welcomed into the fold in the first place?

If you read Chinese you should have known that in the concept of 诸侯用夷礼则夷之,进于中国则中国之, the last sentence means that "a foreigner who embraces Chinese rite/礼 should be treated as Chinese". The concept is about whether one sincerely want to become instead of already being.

Once again, history is your best teacher. At the begining of Zhou dynasty, Wu, Yue and Chu states were regarded as non Chinese by the states in central plain. But once they paid homage to the King of Zhou they are part of China and respected as such. Taking an oath to act like Chinese is enough. BTW, that oath is nothing as light as the oath taken to acquire US passport.

It is hard for foreigners like you to understand the meaning of being Chinese, but also easy for "foreigners" like Eileen Gu once they went through the journey to become Chinese. Becoming Chinese is like believing in God, one does not need to be able to cite the bilble, pray, be familiar with the rutines, one just need to take a deep breath and commit.

I came across a few small Chinese dramas in youtube. I should have never watched any of those. I can't think how this improves China's image. I would say they reinforce the 'cheap' image many westerners still have about China. Are the regulators not worried about this?
Maybe its because jaded old men spending time in geopolitics forums are not target audience of Chinese Dramas. The main audience for Chinese dramas are Chinese women who like watching cheap romance dramas with good looking and extremely thin guys. Chinese dramas are very popular in South East Asia and Latin America where again the women like these dramas.

If you want to watch good Chinese dramas for mature men, you can try Minning Town and Like a Flowing river. Although you may dislike the very pro-CCP tone there but they do have very interesting stories about CHina's rise from poverty

Do you think the USA team and it anthem going be boo at the winter olympics
Unless these athletes start mouthing off like they're pro-Trump. I think the world knows to separate the American people with their government officials. Though remember how Canadian and American ice hockey teams went at each other. I didn't hear how that started.
