I want to highlight this bit:

It looks like they're giving up on the idea of armed conflict with China, probably understandably so though backing down without so much as a whimper is not something I expected.

P.S. I cannot in earnest recommend looking through the actual document, it is so full of Trump-glazing and superlative adjectives that it hurts to read.
This means more variables, with Japan and South Korea becoming more likely to pursue nuclear weapons, while the Philippines and Vietnam may receive increased U.S. aid or military support.

Yep.

---

In the recent trade war, we saw Ford automobile factories shutting down, and Raytheon only 3 weeks away from stopping missile production. In comparison, China was self-sufficient. The result was the US backing down in the trade war and also realising it would lose in a protracted kinetic war against China.

---

And let's say the Pentagon report is accurate on China building 6 new aircraft carriers by 2035, for a total of 9.

Realistically, that means the Chinese Navy can deploy more aircraft carriers in the Western Pacific than the US Navy.
And this would be backed up by the Rocket Force and the Air Force.

So China should be able to win blue-water naval-air battles in the Second Island Chain.

And we can expect the Chinese Navy to still continue growing, although not as dramatically.

Its just that the people in charge of the US government honestly see a huge portion of the US population as a threat to national security. Plain and simple. Fascists white racists sycophants have been put in charge and from their perspective the biggest threat to the US is immigration and people of colour. On that note, ICE murdered another person in Minnesota today!

To add, if you model Chinese shipbuilding construction, it looks like total warship tonnage will roughly double by 2035.

Combined with the expected decline in the size of the US fleet and its tonnage, that could mean the Chinese Navy would have more tonnage

Yes, it’s like they are trying to get a civil war thing going on purpose

The entire thing is very incoherent. So China is no longer a threat but somehow Greenland has to be invaded while nuking the alliance system exactly because China is a threat? I think unlike Trump‘s first term, there‘s just noboby qualified left to make any coherent strategy this time around so we just get this incoherent word salad of a „strategy“.
