The new frigate design will focus on American designs and American yards, [Chief of Naval Operations] Caudle said. “Other countries will always prioritize their own fleets, not us, ships that depend on foreign industry,” he said. “That’s why this is an American design backed by American workers, American suppliers and an established logistics and maintenance network. So wherever the ship sails, when the American flag goes into port, it does so with American industry firmly behind it.”

This sort of rhetoric doesn't exactly fill one with confidence about this administration's reasons for cancelling Constellation.

From what we've seen up to now, it doesn't have sonar or a towed array. So giving up on ASW. I don't know what this thing is supposed to do then.
The baseline cutter already costs something like 700m USD, so better sensors, some missiles and guns that should be around a billion already, can't be much cheaper than the Consti which was 1.4-1.2 billion. Painful numbers all around.

I wouldn't be so quick to conclude this. IMO, the first 4-6 cutters probably won't have much extra equipment, probably for the purpose of simply getting ships out.

I'd expect Flight II or whatever, to basically mirror the armament HII advertised for FFG(X) a few years ago.
