C-1 was compromised and restricted by USA. C-2 is not that much compromised. C-2 and C-390 are not allowed in US and European markets, so numbers R smaller. Chinese response to C-2 would be much better in terms of load/speed/range and that would be there in time frame of 2026-27.
The C-2 is a compromise because the C-17 was way too big and expensive for Japan's needs plus it required opening a new logistics line for the PW engines. The C-2 uses CF6's which are old as fuck but Japan can manufacture parts for it and have commonality with their KC-767 and E-767 fleet. The C390 has been a success in Europe actually and outside of countries like Serbia(i.e non EU members) a sale of a sino C-2 would be blocked.
But it is all a moot point as there is not such thing as a twin engined Y-XX and it doesn't make sense for China to make one unless its someone else paying for the development. China has no need for it, anything too big for the Y-15/Y-30 can use Y-20/Il-76 as has been stated multiple times.
