Speculation on the types of fixed wing UAV onboard
I'll bring up another post by @伏尔戈星图 on Weibo as a sum-up.
611 常规布局无人机
601 攻击21
611 长航时舰载机
611th Institute (i.e. Chengdu) - Conventional configuration UAV
601th Institute (i.e. Shenyang) - GJ-21
611th Institute (i.e. Chengdu) - Long endurance UAV (Most likely to be carrier-based variant of WZ-10)
In addition to the illustration posted by
@Tomboy at the top of this page:
Yes, this looks very well like a loyal wingman-type UCAV that could be capable of not just conducting A2G missions, but perhaps even A2A missions against enemy attack/transport helicopters and UAVs. However, I wouldn't expect it to go largely toe-to-toe against proper enemy fighters like what the UADF-A, UADF-B and UADF-F are capable of.
Perhaps we should denote this UCAV as UADF-GT, with G that comes after the UADF-F, and the T = Catapult-launch for ease of discussion?
In the meantime, here could be what the 076 LHD's fixed-wing air wing looks like:
Carrier-based variant of WZ-10: ISTAR and EW
GJ-21: A2G
UADF-GT: (Mainly) A2A and (secondary) A2G
Though, it might be preferable if the PLAN could also add a carrier-based variant of Wing Loong-X for ASW, given the expected persistent threat of submarines and UUVs against amphibious assault fleets...
