IIRC this kind of indiscriminate EW friendly fire, as it were, is a big problem for both Russia and Ukraine.
Yankee concluded that Pakistan focused too much on its air force and neglected its ground-to-air missile capabilities. This could be due to Pakistan's recent deployment of the HQ-9 and its lack of operational proficiency, leading to a failure to promptly respond to jamming measures. If Such a failure during the Red Arrows exercise is unacceptable and will serve as a case study for the five major military command air forces and naval aviation.

After being attacked by the first wave of PL-15s, many aircraft panicked and entered the HQ-9's lethal flight envelope. The results of the battle that night could have been even greater, as the jammers were not withdrawn in time, resulting in the HQ-9's contribution being ineffective.

The reason for India's defeat is consistent with Reuters' report: the Indian Air Force had no idea the PL-15e had a range of 200 km.

General:那场空战基本上是J-10 自己的 雷达自搜自锁 自打.在200公里内
yankee: 存在双机配合的可能性
General:That air battle was essentially a J-10 self-detection and self-engagement, conducted within 200 kilometers.
yankee: There is the possibility of two-plane coordination.
According to yankee. no AWACS was used to guide the PL-15 in that air battle.
Would be nuts if the AESA genuinely was that powerful to detect even a somewhat LO 4th gen, to say nothing of the other non-LO 4th gens

1) Rafale was carrying fuel tanks/SCALP so even frontal RCS was 3-5 m^2 range

2) Electronically scanned radars have a “staring” mode where a narrow beam can track/engage target at much longer range than usual. Eyrie Eye provided general area for J-10C to scan while the latter focuses in.

3) at least one J-10C received targeting data from another J-10 flying much closer to the target.

After watching video in post #8,430 I don't know how much is true but this is gold.
IAF has no idea PL-15 can kill at 200km so they flew like a target drone if not worse, no maneuver whatsoever.
PLAAF is speechless after the briefing because to shoot at such distance is consider reckless within PLAAF.
J-10CE finish the kill chain all by its onboard AESE radar; possibly done by two plane co-op.
Pakistan long tradition of air force usage lead to lack of confidence on ground missile force doctrine & training.
That's why when HQ-9 got jam by friendly and not able to deploy counter measure in time lead to waste of kill opportunities created by PL-15 kill aftermath panic.

Chinese military spokesperson pretty much confirms Indonesia J-10 deal.

Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

But still no confirmation what variant!?

Based on a good contact I usually trust, Indonesia will get factory-fresh J-10CE and not refurbished former PLAAf aircraft and concerning the still unknown African customer, he mentioned Tanzania would get them too.

Any more info on this?

Often time governments provide used planes to speed up the training/transition process. (sometimes it can speed up transition by like 2-3 years) Like loaning a dozen or so used planes, which are returned when enough of the newly made planes are put into service. No idea if that's happening here but it's just something to keep in mind.

Well, considering the yearly production rate of current chinese planes an order for 42 J-10CE should theoretically be easily manufactured withing a year, though if there are other orders as they are rumoured to be that might be stretched timewise to perhaps couple of years. It depends of course at what rate the J-10CE line has been ticking over lately and it's capacity, but would think at a minimum medium to high tens a year is not much of a stretch.
