Why didn't they do full helmet mounted display for J-20, give up HUD but doing it for 6th gen? We're they behind F-35 when it comes to Helmet mounted display or augmented reality helmet?
Another thing also doesn't make sense, j-36 has 2 HUDS for the two pilots. Surely, J-36 is higher end than J-50 and should have higher end helmet?
I would not be so confident that J-XDS definitively lacks a HUD at the moment. Based on the angles of the photo, it is possible that the internal canopy frame is obscuring a low profile/thin HUD.
I had exactly the same idea ... by remembering this image! By the way, do we have this image without these red boxes?

I have this, but I am not sure if there is a higher resolution version floating around or not
Odd that the EOTS is just transparent
In both angles we can see the dark spot within the chin EO IRST which is indicative of the sensor itself.
In the second image we can see parts of the frame/housing but it is distinctively quite thin/low profile.
So chances are in the first image, the frame and housing is still there, but it is quite thin and due to the distance, makes it look "transparent".
All of which is to say, the EO IRST housing isn't very suspicious to me, and looks quite reasonable overall.
Understandably, the test flights have not yet reached the stage of testing the EOTS. The removal of the pitot tube merely signifies that the aerodynamic design has been largely confirmed, and this is only the first flight following its removal.
I think the chin EO IRST is present.
The fact it looks "transparent" in the first photo is just because the housing of the sensor is so thin and the photo was taken at such long distances.
We can see the housing fairly distinctively in the second photo, and in both photos we can see the actual dark spot indicative of the internal EO IRST sensor itself.

Overall the new pictures are definitely a deviation from the existing airframe we've seen in past months.
It's either a new prototype airframe or it is the same first prototype airframe but significantly modified.
The most obvious differences of course being the removal of the pitot tube, and the replacement of the mockup EOIRST sensor with what is likely a representative or actual real EO IRST sensor+housing.
