New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in China

You mean like BMW or Audi do?
I'm certainly no fan of their naming schemes. I also think it's not a coincidence that VW and Toyota are more successful companies, which is why I mentioned them as positive examples, though this point clearly flew over your head. :)

Though I personally think there has been degradation here too. The VW ID series feels boring, not just in how it looks but also how it is named. And Toyota's EV offerings aren't superbly named either. Both companies should look to their previous successes and to BYD's aquatic family for inspiration.

Like yangwang really missed an opportunity to name their cars after stellar objects. Yangwang comet sounds more memorable than u9.

The U9 caters to a niche market, just like BMW and Audi cater to the upper end of the market and can't be compared to VW and Toyota. And they are successful in their own right. Some people don't mind standing out with a quirky moniker.

Chinese brands are doing well in Israel. In the first 8 months of 2025, China has a total market share of more than 28% (NEV + ICE), while 9 of the 10 top-selling battery EV brands are Chinese, with the exception of Tesla.
Data from the Israel Vehicle Importers Association show that in the first eight months of 2025, roughly half of all new-energy vehicles — including hybrids — registered in Israel were Chinese brands. Chery and BYD ranked third and fourth overall, behind only Toyota and Hyundai. For pure EVs, nine of the top 10 automakers were Chinese, with Tesla the only non-Chinese outlier.

That surge has rapidly shifted Israel’s overall auto market. Chinese brands’ share has jumped from 1% in early 2021 to 17% by mid-2023, reaching 28.7% by mid-2025. That trails only European cars at 31.2% and now surpasses Korean and Japanese automakers.

LMAO article by an Israeli commentator - she can't comprehend why her fellow Israelis keep buying Chinese cars:

This is a useful chart, I think. Shows long-term sales performance among Chinese brands. I've excluded Geely Group and BYD because of their massive sizes which would distort the chart.

Li Auto had a great 2023 and a decent 2024 but simply failed to compete this year. You can see the meteoric rise of Xiaomi. NIO is doing ok once you add the ONVO sub-brand. They also have firefly, but it's too small to matter at this point.

Xpeng and Leapmotor seem to be the clear winners aside from Xiaomi this year. BYD's recent struggles can probably be explained by very strong performance among these start-ups.
