If you think about the long term implication of this H1b move, something surprising could happen. If US and Europe's current anti-immigrant trend continues, then Indians can no longer move to the west anymore. But their desperation to move for a better life will not stop. Where will they try to go if the west is no longer available?

China!

China recently opened up its Visa for high skilled people with engineering degrees. There is a strong chance Indians will start moving to China for better life!

Trump Admin can give “exemptions.” Just like the tariffs. If a company shows “sufficient” loyalty to Trump then they can get the foreigners.

The restriction imposed pursuant to subsections (a) and (b) of this section shall not apply to any individual alien, all aliens working for a company, or all aliens working in an industry, if the Secretary of Homeland Security determines, in the Secretary’s discretion, that the hiring of such aliens to be employed as H-1B specialty occupation workers is in the national interest and does not pose a threat to the security or welfare of the United States.

I only make logical and rational comments strictly pertaining to current events and never resort to personal attacks like some of you guys here.

One, I read through the comments and nobody in anyway "personally attacked" you, so chill. Two, as with the "tariff surrender" a few months ago, people were jumping on the CPC before the full details of the deal were even published. Same situation here, just wait and see before making judgments.

There are already loads of Indians studying in China. Some even study at engineering/military related universities at a very low cost. And yet they talk how India is great and crap on China for not doing more to accommodate them like having vegetarian meals.

This was all captured on weibo. Naturally a lot of Chinese netzines didn't take kindly and asked what the hell is the government doing letting these people in and learning the skills their so called supapowa couldn't. They should be kicked out. When the talented Visa scheme was announced, commentators snarkly mentioned in reality, most of them will be actually Indians.

Thats why I find it funny when people say you can't criticize the government in China. This is clearly a huge one and its something that is gaining traction as more and more people in China see what India and its people are really like. India being an enemy of China does have its benefits since the government has incentive not to hide this.

Not a carveout though. 100k fees have to be paid by every company sponsoring visas. This is probably means that they simply force visa holders to accept transfers to their home countries. Let's be honest salaries are far too high to remain competitive. Some involution is necessary to correct these problems.

There should be exceptions for exceptional talent. Also people exchange is usually positive, especially in education.
As long as there isn't a pipeline that displace qualified Chinese and exploit these visa holders, it should be okay.

The bachelors to MS in CS from US universities is purely to display qualified Americans and place downward pressure on wages.
