There are no what ifs. There is no way to know what would happen if Pax Americana didn’t exist. The only thing we can do is to evaluate Pax Americana’s performance in the past, and it has been horrible. It’s always easy to seat back and criticize what the ruling power does when you are not the one with the responsibility to do so. It’s like football spectators who often analyze and criticize any little mistake the players of the pitch make and some even act like they can even do better than the players. lol or opposition party who always criticises what the ruling party does and claim to have easy fix solutions to any issues the ruling party faces but when they get in power they find out that reality is different and they quickly get humble . lol.
so to claim Pax Americana has only been a bane for the world is just being biased or looking at things from a narrow perspective. I will say it has been fairly good in avoiding a much fractured world where many regional players would have engaged in even more bloody wars/conflict/arms race and nuclear proliferation without discussion from the US.
look no further than east Asia. Do you think things would have been peaceful without the US holding back South Korea and Japan from rearming and even developing nukes to counter balance North Korea and China herself ?
the thing is US PRESENCE is still beneficial to China even more so since China has no ambition or will to act like a regional or world policeman. So US filling that role helps in stabilizing the region.
Read my post carefully. Of course North Korean nukes are a threat, but not an existential one because China still has some pull on the Kims. However, that’s not the case with South Korea and Japan, especially with the atrocities committed by Japan in China. Japanese can acquire nukes and let’s see how China reacts. No, I disagree. N.Korea can be a threat to China. The fact that China was so against North Korea developing nukes to the point of agreeing and joining forces with the US to place sanctions on North Korea over nukes shows this clearly, since Chinese leaders recognize this point.
plus N.Korea herself doesn’t trust China at all and they remain wary of China. The simple fact that N.Korea publicly declared her will and ambitions in developing nukes to dissuade the US and South Korea /Japan (that’s what they say publicly but it’s also secondarily to put China in guard) shows this . It means N.Korea has ZERO TRUST IN CHINA HELPING OR PROTECTING THEM. Else they won’t be so keen on doing that despite Chinas firm objections and sanctions. So it’s a difficult situation for China. To be honest N Korea is a burden for China and they basically hold China hostage, China is powerless against N Korea. Very little China can do to influence or change Pyongyang. This is why I said Chinas policy on North Korea has been an abject failure to be honest , compared to the US on S Korea.
Who is to say Qatar did not consent to this with Israel, with other benefits unknown to us?
To be honest, respecting sovereignty and national dignity of another nation and on the other hand showing their opposing of DPRK's nuclear arming are politics. Japan and ROK have not the ability to do politics because they are occupied. Anyway, can you imagine a logical reason for these two nations, without a massive international coalition behind them, to take on a nuclear power with 1,4 billion population? Do not forget that the last 40 years PRC shouts outloud "I'm here, lets do politics, lets do bussiness"To be honest N Korea is a burden for China and they basically hold China hostage, China is powerless against N Korea. Very little China can do to influence or change Pyongyang. This is why I said Chinas policy on North Korea has been an abject failure to be honest , compared to the US on S Korea.
The US is helping China, but the DPRK is burdening China. Nice rage bait. It’s always easy to seat back and criticize what the ruling power does when you are not the one with the responsibility to do so. It's pretty simple, if you want to know why North Korea got nukes, you don't have to guess, they will tell you themselves. The Kim dynasty is not irrational like Western media likes to portray, on the contrary they are extremely rational actors. They frequently cite the example of Libya which gave up its nukes and was then subject to military action anyway. So it's obvious, they needed nukes to survive and so they got nukes. USA trying to make them give up their nukes was a pipe dream from the beginning, there is no combination of sanctions relief, treaty guarantees, or promises that USA could make that would get North Korea to give up their nukes.China's explanation for North Korea's pursuit of nuclear weapons stems from the late 20th century, when China began normalizing relations with the United States and the West. Meanwhile, its strongest ally, the Soviet Union, disintegrated and also established some degree of normalized relations with the U.S. and the West. Crucially, both China and Russia established diplomatic ties with South Korea. This left North Korea feeling profoundly insecure, propelling it onto a path of isolationism and nuclear armament. The United States has clearly been a driving force behind the North Korean nuclear issue. Its strategy of deterrence and sanctions has plunged North Korea, the U.S., Japan, and South Korea into a vortex of hostility.
