Do you know that a US Navy SSN is tracking this SSK at every moment? Also by law the US Navy is not permitted to use the full range of its sonar capabilities due to federal court rulings and environmental regulations aimed at protecting marine mammals. Powerful, active sonar can injure or kill whales, dolphins, and other marine life, causing disruptions to their feeding, mating, and migration patterns. In REAL wartime it would be a different story.
If USN is in a wartime scenario against Greece (NATO ally), then I think something has gone seriously wrong!Do you know that a US Navy SSN is tracking this SSK at every moment? I don't really understand your post popeye, this was a war game with set scenarios, objectives and training outcomes. Of course REAL (sic!) wartime is completely different.Do you know that a US Navy SSN is tracking this SSK at every moment? I think you missed "Hellenic Navy" in the original postThe PLAN has very capable SSKs...
During war games two sides are established. One is usually blue the other orange. However both sides are told they are the blue force. Confusing? You bet. War games play out realistic and unrealistic situations.
Active sonar is being used by submarines only in very, very specific situations (brawl basically). The only SSN class that would go for active as a go for tactic was the long gone Alpha.Powerful, active sonar can injure or kill whales, dolphins, and other marine life, causing disruptions to their feeding, mating, and migration patterns. In real wartime carriers had rather complicated story with submarine ambushes. On both sides. In REAL wartime it would be a different story.
In a real war, SSKs are far too slow to catch a CBG, both tactically and operationally. The only chance a SSK has at targeting one is if the carrier runs over it. Considering how far carriers usually operate from shore against anyone with even a very modest A2AD network (for example the Houthis), an SSK is unlikely to ever get a carrier.Active sonar is being used by submarines only in very, very specific situations (brawl basically). And you can tell from carrier's direction of advance that submarine is not detected.

And USN ASW, for decades, isn't at its peak.
