I think when we see suffix G we should assume it is a temporary designation as it means upgrade. AG would be most likely named B when entering service.

I rewatched 2015 parade today to look back to what PLA was showing back then. Its astounding how much PLA has changed in just 10 years. In 2015 they were showing just J-10s and Flankers and no KJ-500. In terms of missiles only DF-21D and DF-26. Naval missiles had had only YJ-12, no YJ-18. The only drones noteworthy was Wing loong.

How much things have changed in just 10 years. Compare US forces of 2015 vs 2025, the changes are minimal to degradation.

Type 054AG is a completely different ship from Type 054B.
