I wouldn't discount the 2029 manned aircraft segment that quickly. The 6th gen fighters probably wouldn't be in service yet, but the stuff that should be ready is still pretty impressive. J-20s and J-35s with new engines, KJ-700, and KJ-3000 should all be in service by then, and that's not counting any stuff that we didn't know about yet. Back four years ago, we didn't know about the J-15T and J-15DT, the J-35s, and so on. And of these, the AWACS planes are basically world beaters - the E-7 is the next best, but I don't think it's in the same class of capability.
I'm more interested in new helicopters, we could see real production versions of tiltrotors and ABC helicopters. Z-21 definitely will show up, maybe the new heavy lift helicopter as well.

It is true that all military parades are - at some extent - performative. Some may even argue that having a great performance is the whole idea for something like this.

You are going to see all arguments - most of them uninformed, biased or about the actual state of PLA assets, capabilities etc. At the end of the day though the whole idea of having a strong military for a country like China is to...not ever get forced to use it. That is what deterrence means.

Public posturing by states, experts or idiots on the internet is completely worthless. Same goes for posturing by China fanboys too btw and we have quite a lot of that in this forum, as expected of course. But at the end of the day, it is a fact that those that have to know, will get the message.

Some have even started to complain about it too, too much work 'n' all...case in point..

What I'm trying to say is that instead of getting offended by every idiot on the internet, relax, and enjoy the coming celebration. ;)

Actually, it's interesting to consider that China may have been too successful at weeding out foreign spies to the extent that foreign powers cannot gauge accurately the state and capability of the PLA.

A parade like this with
  • an overwhelming number of platforms being debuted and
  • a simple statement that these are all operational units (whether true or not)
is a great shock and awe psyops to push home to policy makers how badly off mark their think-tanks and own intel agencies are.

Victim of own success really. ;)

If you don't know the kind of intelligence that people involved in actual Western intel agencies get, then you should stop writing stuff like this. PLA itself has a lot of humility. Fanboys on this forum should too.

Come to think of it, it would be interesting to know how / if their thinking, planning, contingencies etc., are impacted by these reveals. Hypothetically.

Like just using a middle-of-ground SDF consensus on these capabilities (so no one runs into problems). Speed and range of YJ-19 for example, plus implications of it in 533mm torpedo tubes.

I think the way it works, is that we have to go look in a mirror and say “Patchwork” three times.

The surprise comes not to the intel agencies but to their clients who have been consistently ignoring bad news from the agencies for decades.

Patch is now the Candyman of PLA watching?
