What's your opinion of metal storm vs drones?

Metal Storm muzzle velocity is ~250m/s? Against a moving target, that is too low to be used as anything other than extremely close-in drone defense

A FPS drone with a velocity of 150kmph is clocking 41m/s
In the time it takes a MS projo to reach out to 50m, the drone has moved ~8m. The gee-whiz tracking/aiming required to make it work at anything other than really close range is just not worth the effort given other solutions available.

If your vehicular APS can be programmed to include drones, then why carry another system? Metal Storm does not offer the sustained capability that will make it superior to an APS system that can be reloaded under fire. Point to note, the EFP used in a typical APS goes at 2000m/s+

If your vehicle does not feature an APS system, then a gun based drone defense system offers sustained capabilities that will come in useful when under saturation attacks. The gun based system is also capable of offering sustained anti-infantry capability.

Metal Storm is a very unique set of capabilities (and limitations) that kinda of hasn't aged well and there are solutions that can kinda do what it does with less restrictions.

I forgot to mention the guancha gang said the 625 system is not good enough to take out FPV drones. If this system is not good enough, don’t expect a gun-based system on tanks to be able to.

This isn´t a good argument, for several reasons:

- The 625 predates even the idea itself of the FPV combat drone. Can´t expect a system doing something it wasn´t even required to do.

- You are mixing 2 tasks into one. Because one thing is for a tank to protect itself and/or assets in its immedate area (ie. its own platoon) and another one differently is for an SPAA to provide AA capability to a certain area. No one should expect a vehicle such as a 625 rolling mixed with tank platoon right up to the enemy trenches.

- Yet the biggest problem regarding drones, and I wont get tired of repeating this, is detecting the little buggers rather than shoot them down. Even simple infantrymen with shotgun and buckshot regularly shoot down small drones, as long as they can see/hear them in time.

The way i see it, its a dedicated AA and has higher expectations in reliability to take on drones. But if more tanks and afv has some gun sytem to assist in fighting drones in relatively low cost manner. Is still a worthwile path to pursue.
