Chinese Economics Thread

I agree with this video, one important but often overlooked problem caused by this rat race 内卷, is that it pushes supply chain out of China, both low and high end,at a rate much faster than the US did in the past.
At a certain point, the only way to continue to move up the value chain is to offshore portions of the supply chain. From the perspective of individual businesses, offshoring the less profitable processes is also the most efficient way to continue to scale your business. With regards to trade, creating jobs in other countries is the best way to create markets for your exports.

And this has nothing to do with state-owned versus private, but with capital management and allocation. Singapore, for example, has several state-owned enterprises that provide high returns on capital, competing equally with private companies. There is genuine competition for credit in Singapore, which is why they have grown and are now a developed economy with a high per capita income.

China needs active governance reform in state-owned enterprises, and this, rather than disrupting China's state-owned model, will actually do the opposite and make Chinese state-owned enterprises even more competitive.
State-owned and private enterprises have different roles within China's mixed economic system. While profit maximization is the role of private enterprises, the role of state-owned enterprises is to provide employment and minimize the cost of inputs used by other enterprises. While private enterprises aim to pay workers the lowest possible wage and charge the highest possible price for its products, SOE's must balance paying workers the highest possible wages while charging the lowest possible price for its products (generally favoring the later).

The Chinese migration story is full of blood and tear,no one would flee from comfort unless they have no choice. And it is the responsibly of those in charge to make China a comfort place for it's citizens so no one have to 卖猪仔
The competition in China is too fierce, much tougher than in other countries. Until true communism can be achieved, which is at least another 2-3 generations away, there are always going to be Chinese people leaving for other countries.

Yes, it is ironic that the state enterprises, once scorned as the lumbering examples of inefficiency, has and continue to play pivotal roles in the Chinese economy. There are areas where lack of profitability but nevertheless hugely strategically important to a country, will be filled by state owned enterprises. Examples are public infrastructure, resource acquisition, strategic overseas investment, supply chain near the root (metals, chemicals), most of these are large scale investments that don't have much direct return on investment. Other examples include aerospace, MIC. Actually, the Chinese model of MIC works such much better compared to the American counterparts.

生于忧患,死于安乐
Comfort will breed complacency, degeneracy and laziness which in turn lead to the downfall of civilizations.

Wow,what a surprise.

Making the country a comfort place to live ,is the basic principle of any leader of any country at any time in history. Those emperors who brought 富足安乐 to society are considered 明君,those who make the country a miserable to live are considered 昏君. That is the universal consensus in society.

Make the country a living hell does not prevent you from the downfall of civilization, that has been proven again and again throughout history

Wow, a competitive business environment is hell. What’s next? Cancel 高考 because it is too competitive?

Yes it is,according to official statement
In case you missed it, the latest official statement is “依法依规治理企业无序竞争” (manage uncontrolled competition), not “依法依规治理企业低价无序竞争” (manage uncontrolled low cost competition)

The 富足安乐 the previous emperors brought is good by itself but it brought about long term stagnation that culminated in the fall of the Qing, the government should not emulated this.

You are exaggerating things when you state that a highly competitive business environment leads to a country being a living hell. As long as the government curbs worker abuse and pays competitive wages while the competitive business environment brings about a lower cost of living, there is no need to diffuse the competitive environment.

"low cost competition" is a subset of "uncontrolled competition"

20 years ago collage graduates or 村里第一个大学生 were hot cake in China, darling of the society. Nowadays China is flooded with collage graduates
