A sports coach at a Taiwanese university has issued a formal apology over a research project that allegedly involved her coercing students into giving blood, according to local media.

Chou Tai-ying, 61, said that her intention was to help her team "because I had only a few players and they were often injured", but it is not known exactly what the blood was being taken for.

A Taiwanese politician, Chen Pei-yu, brought the case to light in 2024, alleging students were told that they would lose academic credits if they did not take part.

An internal investigation at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) in Taipei later found the blood sampling had started in 2019 and continued into 2024 for different "research projects".

Death toll in Vietnamese boat capsize disaster had risen to 35.

The government said rescuers had managed to retrieve the sunken boat and revised down the death toll to 35 from an initial 38 on Saturday, while cutting an estimate of those aboard to 49 from 53, though officials fear the toll could still rise.
All the tourists aboard were Vietnamese, including several children, the official Vietnam News Agency said.

The accident happened in Ha Long Bay, a very popular tourist spot. I've been there before too. Usually safe, but tragedies can happen too.

The accident was one of the worst in recent years in the UNESCO-protected archipelago of thousands of limestone islands about 200 km (125 miles) northeast of Hanoi, which draws tens of thousands of visitors each year.

Thousands of US-bound vehicles are now sitting idle at Belgium’s Port of Antwerp-Bruges, as Donald Trump’s latest tariffs hurt transatlantic car exports. The port, one of Europe’s busiest for vehicle shipments, is now 80–85% full.

Since Trump’s new 25% tariffs took effect in April, car and van exports from Antwerp-Bruges to the US have fallen by 14.3%. Shipments of larger vehicles, including trucks and tractors, are down by more than 31%.
