Had China followed this path, it might have resembled a giant Philippines or, worse, a very corrupt and dysfunctional India.

America's decline is inevitable primarily due to internal reasons, and would occur this century regardless of the rise of China. Perhaps China's rise may have expedited or accelerated America's decline, but it would be more accurate to view these two trends as coincidental in nature rather than having any casual relationship.

I disagree. If it wasn't for China's rise America would still be able to trod along for quite a while. Look at what's going on, even with all its problems and dysfunctions its vassals are still trying to hug its nuts and refuse to stand up for themselves. China was the only country that could stand up to America on its own and that's saying something. Time is running out for them and they know it.
