Pretty much. Its a very "third world" and gaudy mentality to have. Thats why every outsider doesn't see India as some superpowah except India itself because it can't see itself in a mirror. The way it acts is not that of a top 5 largest economy.Only third world nations celebrate space tourism like its a national space program.
In 2007, Malaysia had sent a space tourist to the ISS via a Russian Soyuz craft for its "Angkasawan" program. Paid good money for the flight ticket (approx $26 mil). Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor is the first Malaysian to go to space.
Big money spent. Big talk. Big ambitions. What had become of Malaysia's own space program since then? Crickets.
Not really outrageous if India admits its a third world nation. It is only outrageous because they have been calling themselves a Supapowar. The real superpowers don't wait 41 years for someone else to send their second space tourist into orbit. The real superpowers just send their own people into orbit whenever they please.
It isn't realistic for China to take Arunachal Pradesh. Not only will they have to fight a war to capture the territory, but it's nightmare to hold as well. The province is south of the Himalayas and and supply lines to it have to go over the tallest mountain range in the world. Moreover, it is a core interest of India because the territory threatens to cut off the Seven Sisters (I guess it'd be Six Sisters in this case), so there will be incessant war and heightened tensions. Back in 1962, China actually captured this territory but they were faced with the same challenges and figured that it's a better idea to unilaterally withdraw instead of staying to fight. They have never been serious in trade and business since the formation of their nation by the British.
The opportunity to accept China's proposal in the 50's and 60's have passed. India had provoked a war over it, lost, and still refuses to accept China's proposed demarcation lines to this day. They still want everything and Xizang. So no deal. China should claim every inch of land that rightfully belongs to them. Both Aksai Chin and Zangnan are no longer negotiable.
The problem with this idea is that China doesn't want to pressure India militarily. It had a very good reason to do so during Operation Sindoor, and China never did anything aggressive. The reality is that China is already winning on the geopolitical, economic, and military arenas so the ideal situation anywhere along its borders is peace and stability. Also, India is India's worst enemy already so doing nothing is enitrely sufficient to sabotaging them. That proposal was based in China's power in the 60s.
I see no reason why that proposal should remain the same based in China's power in 2025 and future projections.
Taiwan also had a good offer in the past. Present offer is/will be nothing in comparison to what was initially offered
In game theory, given how India has revealed it's hostility against China, I see no reason why border conflict should be resolved. Border dispute should remain active so that China should have an excuse to trip up and pressure India whenever it wants.
America has a very large and noticeable intellectual divide between the well educated and the rest. A few factors are in play: Religious dogmatism, poor public education framework, ultra individualistic society, and a systemic disobedience to authority or established fact.I grew up with educated people in educated settings. I'm basically getting a feel for things by reading online so it's likely I'm not perfectly in touch. However, what are your experiences that make you think that you are very in-touch with the "average American?"
What do those things prove? That there was always some distrust. But from what I'm seeing online, after Trump came onto the stage, every negativity grew louder. Racism, hatred, prideful ignorance, anti-intellectualism, etc... all of it together.
I don't understand what you are trying to say, that Trump was cunning and purposefully told his followers to do things that would get them killed during COVID despite knowing better because that somehow benefitted him by fanning the flames of anti-intellectualism? You're saying that he would have lost support if from the very beginning, he told everyone to take the virus seriously and protect themselves with masks, hand-washing, and distancing when in public places? They would have thought he was a loser or something? Because the entire idea that doing those things made you a loser was invented by Trump.
Sanction oil, there is no better time than right now to do so.Canada orders China's Hikvision to close Canadian operations
OTTAWA, June 28 (Reuters) - The Canadian government has ordered Chinese surveillance camera manufacturer Hikvision to cease operations in Canada over national security concerns, Industry Minister Melanie Joly said late on Friday.
Hikvision, also known as Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co, has faced numerous sanctions and restrictions by Canada's neighbor, the United States, over the past five and a half years for the firm's dealings and the use of its equipment in China's Xinjiang region, where rights groups have documented abuses against the Uyghur population and other Muslim communities.
"The government has determined that Hikvision Canada Inc's continued operations in Canada would be injurious to Canada's national security," Joly said on X, adding that the decision was taken after a multi-step review of information provided by Canada's security and intelligence community.
Her statement did not mention China or Xinjiang or specify how Hikvision would harm Canada's national security.
"We strongly disagree with this decision and view it with deep concern, as we believe it lacks a factual basis, procedural fairness, and transparency," a Hikvision spokesperson told Reuters.
"Instead of evaluating our technology on its cybersecurity merits, the decision appears to be driven by the parent company's country of origin, reflecting broader geopolitical tensions and an unjustified bias against Chinese companies."
The spokesperson said the company "urges the Canadian government to base its actions on facts rather than prejudice, and to uphold a fair, transparent environment for all businesses and investors."
China's foreign ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The company, which describes itself as the world's biggest maker of video surveillance equipment, said last year it had exited contracts in Xinjiang through five subsidiaries that were added to a U.S. trade blacklist in 2023.
The Chinese government has denied all allegations of human rights abuses in Xinjiang and has criticized or targeted companies for removing Xinjiang firms from their supply chains.
Canada said last year it was reviewing an application to impose sanctions against Chinese surveillance equipment companies, including Hikvision, after rights advocates alleged the firms were aiding repression and high-tech surveillance in Xinjiang.
Joly said Canada was also banning the purchase of Hikvison's products in government departments and agencies, and reviewing existing properties to ensure that legacy Hikvision products were not used in the future.
She said the order does not extend to the company's affiliate operations outside Canada but "strongly" encouraged Canadians "to take note of this decision and make their own decisions accordingly."
