I hear that China will be getting it's EV tariffs removed (minimum price instead which is very favorable for Chinese EV makers), so please be patient.
The +20% is due to fentanyl-related action, and is before April 6th "liberation day" tariffs. So as far as reciprocal tariffs, China achieved equality. Fentanyl cooperation is a low-hanging fruit, easy to "fix." Please be patient.

We'll see, but if this deal only includes like Chinese EV in USA and nVidia chips then that's not worth it. EU will be coming next for similar deal, European retail is in shambles thanks to Temu, Shein and Alibaba. If you can blackmail China, and then make an unequal treaty, then better would be no deal at all.

I don't think it's the liberal elite problem but the corrupt communist party elite problem who are still trying setup their family to live in the US with money gained from corruption.
It was actually 10% vs 10% "Liberation day tariffs" from both sides. The other 20% from the US side is "fentanyl tariff". China has separate targeted retaliatory tariffs against "fentanyl tariffs" on specific classes of goods. That was retained on Chinese side too. So it was an equal deal more or less.
They just mention Chinese 10% (Only Liberation day) vs US 30% (Liberation day 10% + Fentanyl 20%), without mentioning Chinese "fentanyl tariff" retaliatory measures (which are still retained by China after Geneva deal), to make the headlines look good for US public.
The new number trump is mentioning is The above 30% + the previously existing 25% from Trump's first administration. IIRC, China had it's own retaliatory measures for that 25% from Trump's first administration too.
IMO, from my experience most elites still would want to send their children to either the UK or the US even right now. However with recent events I have a few friends who's parents might consider sending them to the UK instead. Personally speaking I'd say education aboard still has it's advantages tbf.
