'历史没有如果‘Theres no if in history. But anyway, there's what IF when we combed history of the honeymoon era, there were chances PLAAF acquiring western planes, notably F14, F16-79 and M2K. But i'm glad PLAAF held on with domestic development which resulted in arguably best 4th gen heavy fighter (Sino-flanker), J10C developments which build up China's aviation industry that leads to development of J-20s and six gens today. Should PLAAF went with F14 and F16-79, China would be sanctioned by US, plagued with high maintenance cost of F14 and subpar performance of F16-79. And how far can you upgrade Mirage 2000 anyway?

Be glad that Su-27k and J-10 happened.
Right! my baptism to PLA watching without it I may just watch JAV and Anime....lol

Wait what, PLAAF was looking at aquiring the F-14?! Any more details about that?

It was way too expensive for China. They did collaborate with Grumman for J-8II Peace Pearl and they had an opportunity to observe it.

Similarly the French showcased Mirage 2000 and got a Chinese pilot to fly in it during the 80s. Even after Jun 4th incident some level of contact was kept, and they even sold the CATIA design software which helped during design phase of J-10.

It's ironic, the seed of the cooperation had come back to bite them.

I did read in the past about PLAAF interest in Mirage-2000, also Harrier, and mention of F-16 as well, but never F-14. Probably not the topic here, but could you point me to an article or other media about the PLAAF F-14 interest? And more details about the other possible deals would be very welcome too. .

Take it with a mountain of salt because it is from a forum source:

Apparently Egypt decided to go with J-10 deal after the exercise with PLAAF. The recent clash will only help seal it.
Theirs and the Indians are the same non-streamlined hodgepodge. Connectivity is key.

There is no reason for them to pursue a new fighter if it can't stand a chance against their nextdoor neighbour. What they currently have have is sufficient for all other countries.

I second this. Even with J10c I don’t see Egyptian challenging Israel unless they revamp the whole doctrine and incorporate C4ISR
