Guy would get others to implement his ideas and then take credit. Velocity, the university venture capital initiative, didn't give a shit when people complained.
As expected really.

On a side note how on earth does this forum have so many deep insiders and subject matter experts anyway?

It's just a forum to discuss Chinese military stuff. Didn't know it would attract the CIA, think tank spies, nuclear scientists etc.

Wonder is there a way to use the info I get here to make money off the financial market during this turmoil.

I think there are a couple more dimensions I don't think has been talked about much:

1 - US has to somehow force Canada and Mexico to match US tariff on China/World, otherwise trans-shipment through Canada becomes an instant profit scheme. Problem is with all the annexation talk, it's becomes politically hard for Ottawa to join US in death (as much as they want to as fellow Anglos), this could force US to act even more aggressively toward its neighbours.

2 - Marketshare lost from global retaliatory tariff on US exports helps boost a number of Chinese industries, e.g. cars, semiconductors, the few things US still export that's not farm goods. If US tariff keeps on increasing, or China just embargo them, entire sectors could become up for grabs by Chinese companies.

3 - Following from 2, China hasn't played crackdown on American multi-national card yet. The nature of US companies is they do a lot of business in the US, Tesla for example is infinitely more vulnerable to this trade war than BYD. Right now American companies are only taking damage from tariff side of this trade war, but if and when China plays the sanction card, those companies could just die.

China likes to say there's no winners in a trade war, but that's only true from a win-win starting point, from a zero-sum starting point, this could, or already have turn into another COVID.

After 6 months.. foxnews finally tells it's audience the importer pays the tarrif

It's really stupid. It's possible that US manufacturing will in fact shrink due to his tariffs.
Anyone manufacturing in the US now probably has a very efficient global supply chain, sourcing a lot from China (and elsewhere), so all the parts prices have now gone up and they aren't sure their customers can swallow a 50% price increase, and could just shut down.

Hegseth says China’s military presence in western hemisphere is ‘too large’

PANAMA CITY (AP) — U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on Wednesday focused again on China’s presence in the western hemisphere, one day after calling the world power a threat to the Panama Canal.

Speaking at a regional security conference, Hegseth said that China-based companies were controlling land and critical infrastructure in strategic sectors.

“China’s military has too large of a presence in the western hemisphere,” Hegseth said. “Make no mistake, Beijing is investing and operating in this region for military advantage and unfair economic gain.”

He called on the region’s governments to work together to deter China and address threats posed by transnational drug cartels and mass immigration.

Hegseth was speaking a day after meeting Panama’s President José Raúl Mulino and touring the Panama Canal. The two countries agreed to step up security coordination and appeared to say they would work toward a way to pay back fees that U.S. warships pay to pass through the Panama Canal.

The visit comes amid tensions over U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated assertions that the U.S. is being overcharged to use the Panama Canal and that China has influence over its operations — allegations that Panama has denied.

Shortly after Hegseth and Mulino met, the Chinese Embassy in Panama criticized the U.S. government in a statement on X, saying Washington had used “blackmail” to further its own interests and that who Panama carries out business with is a “sovereign decision of Panama ... and something the U.S. doesn’t have the right to interfere in.”

China’s concern was provoked by Hong Kong-based consortium CK Hutchison holding a 25-year lease on ports at either end of the canal. The Panamanian government announced that lease was being audited and late Monday concluded that there were irregularities, which CK Hutchison denied in a statement Wednesday.

CK Hutchison had already announced that it would be selling its controlling stake in the ports to a consortium including BlackRock Inc., effectively putting the ports under American control once the sale is complete.

Coming soon. “The Chinese are massing for an imminent invasion of Greenland. An preemptive attack on Greenland is necessary”

China Issues Travel Warning For US

China's tourism ministry has issued a new "risk alert" about the U.S. to Chinese travelers amid the trade war with President Donald Trump.

"Recently, due to the deterioration of China-US economic and trade relations and the domestic security situation in the United States, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism reminds Chinese tourists to fully assess the risks of traveling to the United States and be cautious," the ministry said in its alert on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, China's Ministry of Education has issued a warning for students considering studying in the U.S.

The new advisory comes after the state of Ohio passed the Higher Education Act, which includes provisions negatively impacting Chinese-American academic exchanges. The Ministry urges Chinese nationals to carefully assess safety risks and increase their awareness of potential challenges when selecting U.S. states, particularly those affected by the new restrictions.

The ministry's alert, issued on Wednesday, highlights concerns over the worsening China-U.S. economic and trade relations, as well as the domestic security situation in the U.S. It advises Chinese tourists to carefully evaluate the risks of traveling to the U.S. and exercise caution.

The move follows steep declines in global markets, driven by growing concerns that the trade war could cause widespread economic damage well beyond the U.S. and China.

In April, President Trump imposed tariffs on numerous American trading partners, prompting many to retaliate with their own measures.

The updated travel guidance by China comes as Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Germany, France and the U.K. have all issued new travel guidance for those wishing to travel to the U.S. in response to President Trump's crackdown on immigration and trans rights.

Beijing's motivation is centered around the opening rounds of a renewed trade war with the U.S.

China announced it will raise tariffs on U.S. imports to 84 percent in response to President Donald Trump's latest tariff hike on Chinese goods, adding 50 percent to the previous rate of 34 percent, after Trump's increase to 104 percent as of Wednesday.

Trump's "reciprocal" tariffs on dozens of countries went into effect on Wednesday.

These new duties, announced on April 2 during a speech from the White House Rose Garden, are in addition to the 10 percent tariff the president imposed on all global imports starting on April 5.

The administration claims the measure will address long-standing global trade imbalances that have hurt the U.S. and encourage companies to move their manufacturing operations to the country.

President Trump said in a speech to the NRCC on Tuesday night: "After all of the abuses they've perpetrated, China is attempting to impose additional unjustified tariffs...That's why additional tariffs on Chinese goods are in place, effective midnight tonight, at 104 percent.

"Until they make a deal with us, that's what it's going to be. I think they'll make a deal with us at some point. China will. They want to make a deal, they really do...they just don't know how to get it started."

"The U.S. escalation of tariffs on China is a mistake on top of a mistake, which seriously infringes on China's legitimate rights and interests and seriously undermines the rules-based multilateral trading system," China's finance ministry said in a statement.

There are no indications that the U.S.-China trade dispute will deescalate anytime soon, with both sides maintaining a firm stance.
