The gap between the belly of the fuselage is the only perplexing thing about this design. I feel there's no need to have it and it actually might limit the size of the IWB. Smoothing out the belly won't create drag and logical should improve overall stealth.
Maybe Shenyang is just focused on the flying characteristics for now and not the overall stealth at this stage. This gap might not be there in a future prototype design like the design maturation from the FC-31 to J-35.
In the end what do I know, I'm not an aerospace engineer.

Should be a J-20 intake evolution type situation. They looked mad ugly initially on the 200X prototypes but got significantly better on 201X prototypes.
