imo it is likely that in the future Saudi Arabia may be China’s main ally in the Middle East. Iran is seriously too incompetent. Saudi’s crown prince seems to at least understand geopolitics.
With KSA, it will be a tug of war between China and the West. America has huge influence in Saudi Arabia; the weapons/equipment are mostly American, the politics is largely joint, security is provided by America, US has bases inside and all around KSA, Saudi royals are "educated" in USA/UK. Saudis will play this tug of war to their advantage, switching sides back n forth. You don't get that with Iran, despite the incompetence.
