it was a good read, thnx, would have been better if you had a more comprehensive speculation of where the PLAN is heading in the future though

First of all... well done on the accurate presentation of the Chinese Naval growth throughout the years. It is always very informative and accurate to read your website. However this time round when I read your homepage, I find there is something that might grew to the China threat theory which I find that I must point out.

The overall figures of growth for Chinese Naval is projected as 115.66% while the growth for US Naval is projected at -16.79%. Well, as this is true figures, it actually did quite little to project the power difference for the two navies.

Chinese only started their naval modernization in recent decades, and most of her destroyers (even today) are considered quite outdated when compared to the US counterpart. Although the Chinese laid quite a number of ships in this decade which suddenly show the spike in development and growth (numerically), but this spike is actually only in percentage. If you look at the numbers... the Chinese started of with practically 0 number of modern ships, while the US had huge number of ships.

Thus if people are only reading data as a percentage on the whole, there will have this sudden fear of the Chinese growth. But if you actually look into individual growth breakdown and the numbers of capable ships, the Chinese's navy is actually quite weak when compared to the Western, Japan and even South Korea Standard.

Thus I think a side note should be place in your fabulous website to emphasis this fact. Anyway, this is just my thought, doesn't represent the general public or netizens though.

Thanks.

I do believe the PLAN will build a larger & improved LPD/LPH, but that "proposed line art" is fan-art.

I could be wrong but it looks like a "promotional" poster or something... can anyone confirm? Will the PLAN build something like the Korean Dokdo? If so, it'd give the PLAN a very versatile platform in its quest to be a blue water navy. :)

In term of capability, I believe China will be able to build something of the same class as the Korean Dokdo. But right now, resources are being tied to building the new carrier, destroyers and frigates. Thus it would be very difficult to build another large ship like the Dokdo.

Are those new LDH designs official?
No...it is just something that is showing up in the Chinese press. That particular design is one of many...but looks the best from what an actual LHD may look like. I believe the PLAN fully capable of building such a design if they so desire and am somewhat surrised that we have not seen a follow-on to the 998 as of yet.
