People are underestimating what it takes to destroy a dam that size except nuclear weapons and that means nuclear war. And even in the hypothetical case that someone can cause mass causalities hitting that dam will only open that door for China to cause mass causalities to anyone who hit that dam.

Firing a lot of missiles over/at the mainland at assumed civilian targets, even if they're all likely to be shot down, fulfils the clause of planning/actualizing a mass attack on civilians in China by a state actor, which legally allows PLA to deliver WMD strategic 2nd strike.
Ofc China wouldn't use WMD, they'd just deliver 100s of kilotons in conventional weapons into the cities that launched the missiles. Same effect with no nuclear controversy.
The key here is that China can (after an intentional mass attack on civilians on the mainland) reply with strategic strikes meaning strikes not against military target but for the purpose of totally neutralizing enemy strategic combat capability.
By landlocked I mean they do not have direct access to any major power. Misworded, yes.
The thing that really angers is that is quite easy to keep peace and prosperity Across the Straight and the Pacific in general. Keep the One China Policy, the status quo and tell those useful idiots in that island to shut the f*ck up. That island will get to enjoy their semiconductor industry, their high standard of living and their shit*y elections. A prosperous Taiwan is more useful to China than a pile of ruble. But not, a group of useful idiots in that island are willing to trade decades of prosperity for years of absolute misery to satisfy a group of clowns in the US that once they have stripped that Island of their best talent and more valuable companies, they are going to forget that Island even existed.
That is a revanchist American lie. "Peace and prosperity" inside China can only be defined by the Chinese people. We owe no accommodations to terrorists and other armed troublemakers.
The prosperity a province should have is dictated by the needs of the whole country and it's contribution to those. If Taiwan's only contribution is insurgents, criminals and Wang jingwei adherents while not giving a cent to central government proceeds or helping the reconstruction of the country in any way, it is worth less than a pile of rubble and a parking lot over the whole province would be preferable over the status quo.
This so called "one China" is a grave insult, it's something we were forced to sign only to remove the risks of MAD and to buy time to build up the military. It's for us what the Minsk agreements were for Ukraine. If you read up on what it means, you'll realize why we must break it as soon as possible.
We have not clearly done our homework about the real capabilities of the PLA. I think we all may have been misled and forget that the PLA have no faced or experience joint maneuver warfare and all of its supposed self-advertised capabilities are nothing but mere facade.

I saying this from an neutral POV so you can see the magnitude of the stupidity of these DPP useful idiots. Of course China would prefer to to have that island integrated into mainland China but given the differences the next best alternative would be "One Country Two System", they get to have whatever they want as long China security and territorial integrity guarantees are met.
You can win by forcing the yankees to source their own supplies rather than spoonfeed their MIC. I said this before: it will take decades to create a domestic supply chain to replace China. Just to replace the supply of gallium from China, the US has to double their current power grid.
